Changing Plans

This week, Maggie and I assembled a 7.5-foot-tall Christmas tree and redressed our mannequins to fit the new scene. I had so much fun getting into the Christmas spirit for a little bit (even though it is fairly early) as we decorated. I could tell that the clients were enjoying it too, as many of them complimented us on our work and offered words of encouragement. For the rest of the week, we sorted, tagged, and hung clothes.

Over break, Maggie and I discussed plans for our Seton Store pop-up shop and decided to reschedule it for later in the semester. In our initial planning stage, Maggie and I decided, along with the Seton Store’s Director of Operations, that we should have three full racks of clothing for sale. At this point, however, we have only pulled enough clothing to fill one rack. It has proven to be a bit difficult to find clothing that the majority of college students would be interested in. The majority of Seton Family Store clients and donors are older individuals, so their clothing styles differ from those of college students. Another factor in our decision to push the event back was that fall break only allotted us about one week for promotion on campus, which we did not think would be adequate.

Despite the rescheduling, Maggie and I will continue to work hard to make sure that this event goes off without a hitch! In years past, attempts to attract Mount students have not been remarkably successful. Hopefully, our pop-up shop will both entice Mount students to buy from the Seton Store, which generates profit for the Outreach Office, and to make their own donations in the future.

  1. I enjoyed reading about the logistical background for your Seton Store pop-up shop. It is a solid reminder of the organization and logistics that go into planning campus events. This event should definitely help raising funds for the Seton Center while also raising awareness for what the Seton Center does. It makes sense that you've pushed the event back due to the amount of appropriate clothing available and promotion time. If you and Maggie want me to distribute flyers to the residence halls, please let me know!
