Hard Launching Christmas
This week, we got a break from our typical jobs to prepare the store for Christmas. We have slowly been rolling out Christmas merchandise since September, but the holidays are in full swing at the Seton Store now that Halloween has passed and November has begun. Maggie and I have been working hard to help this shift go smoothly.
Throughout the year, people donate Christmas items, which go into storage in a closet in the sorting room. Maggie and I have been responsible for sorting and tagging 25 packed boxes worth of items. Each week, merchandise is tagged with a different color to indicate how long it has been on the floor. Using these colored tags, we have split the merchandise and planned which items will go on the floor and when in the coming weeks. This will help us get as much merchandise on the floor as quickly as possible, with the ultimate goal of selling these items and opening up storage space in the sorting room.
We also have continued decorating for Christmas around the store with garlands, fake trees, and various knick-knacks. I enjoy spending time on the floor because it gives me an opportunity to interact with customers directly, and our decorating frequently starts pleasant conversations. It has been very enjoyable taking part in spreading holiday cheer, and it is nice to know that something as simple as Christmas decorations can be a source of joy for others.
